I SALMI DI SANTIAGO

(Un viaggio nell’anima)

Quindici fotografie, selezionate tra più di tremila scattate nell’arco temporale di quattro anni, dal 2016 a 2019, lungo il percorso francese (12 fotografie) e portoghese (3 fotografie), ciascuna corredata dalla didascalia di un Salmo di David.
Immagini semplici, dimesse, che raccontano non un viaggio fisico, di cui si vuole conservare il ricordo, ma un itinerario di ricerca spirituale, un viaggio nell’anima. Nessun intento documentaristico - i luoghi ripresi sono quasi tutti sconosciuti, non compaiono chiese o cattedrali, nè momenti di cerimonie religiose - e nessun “effetto cartolina”: solo un bianco e nero sobrio, testimonianza di un percorso privato di devozione, attraverso la contemplazione della bellezza delle opere del Signore, per rammentare a noi stessi che cosa è l’uomo, nel suo rapporto con il Creato; la figura umana, infatti, compare in una sola fotografia (una bambina che gioca con un cane) perché come diceva Giovanni Comisso “nel paesaggio è il primo segno delle mani di Dio e giustifico certi esseri sensibili che nel mezzo dei paesaggi più belli attestano d’aver veduto l’apparizione della divinità. L’altro segno è l’uomo, ma l’uomo si forma e cresce in rapporto al paesaggio: è uno specchio del paesaggio”.

 

 

THE SANTIAGO PSALMS

(A Journey Into The Soul)

A medley of fifteen photographs spanning four years (2016-2019), carefully chosen among the over three thousand shots along two routes: The French Way (12 pictures)1 and The Portuguese Way (3 pictures)2 with a caption each, from David’s Psalms.
Unpretentious images of sheer simplicity: not a recall aid of the physical journey but instead a spiritual research path, a journey into the soul. Hence, the collection is not meant to be a travelogue – the places are nearly all unknown, neither churches nor cathedrals are to be found, no glimpses of religious ceremonies or festivals and no “postcard effect”: only a plain black and white, witnessing a personal faith path through the contemplation of beauty in the works of the Lord to remind ourselves what mankind is in its relationship with the Creation; the human figure, actually, appears only once (a little girl playing with a dog) as, to put it in Giovanni Comisso’s words: “the first sign of God’s hands is in the landscape and I can accept that some human beings with marked sensibility, lost in the middle of the most mesmerizing natural scenery, claim they have seen divine signs. The other sign is the human being, but the human being shapes itself and grows through its relationship with nature: it is a mirror of the surrounding landscape.”
